How to set up Hik-Connect on your phone

A simple guide to viewing your Hikvision or HiLook cameras on your phone with the Hik-Connect app, plus fixes for common setup problems.

Quick answer

Install the Hik-Connect app, create an account, then add your recorder by scanning the QR code on the recorder’s label or in its network settings. You’ll need the recorder’s verification code. If you don’t have your passwords, or the recorder isn’t connected to the internet, we can set it up for you.

Menus and screens vary between recorder models, firmware versions and app updates, so the exact wording on your system may differ.

What you need

  • Your Hikvision or HiLook recorder (NVR or DVR) connected to your modem with a network cable
  • Your phone on Wi-Fi or mobile data
  • The recorder’s admin password, or someone who can log in to it
  • The device verification code, found on the recorder label or set in its settings

Step by step

  1. Install the app

Download Hik-Connect from the App Store or Google Play and create an account with your email or mobile number.

  2. Check the recorder is online

On the recorder, open the network or platform access settings and make sure Hik-Connect access is enabled and showing as online.

  3. Add the device

In the app, tap the plus button and scan the QR code on the recorder label, or the QR code shown in the recorder’s Hik-Connect settings.

  4. Enter the verification code

Type the verification code when asked. It is often printed on the label or was set during installation.

  5. Test live view and playback

Open a camera, then try playback to check recordings are working from your phone.

Common problems

  • Device shows offline. The recorder may have lost its internet connection, often after a new modem or NBN change.
  • Device already added to another account. It is still linked to a previous owner or installer’s account and needs to be released.
  • Wrong verification code. The code may have been changed at installation. An admin can view or reset it on the recorder.
  • Forgotten recorder password. This needs a password reset before the app can be set up.

Sharing access with family

Hik-Connect lets the main account share cameras with other users, so each family member or manager can have their own login instead of sharing one password.
